Oregon health officials are warning visitors to stay out of the water at a popular Newport area beach.
A health advisory was issued after high levels of fecal bacteria were measured in waters at Nye Beach which means visitors should look but don’t touch.
Officials say visitors should not wade in nearby creeks, pools of water on the beach, or in discolored water. Other activities such as walking or recreating on the beach don’t pose a health risk.

Other beaches in the Newport area are not impacted by the advisory.
The bacteria can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses, the Oregon Health Authority said.
